School Board President, Lake Grad, and Lake Dad Adam Doane talks all things levy. These short videos along with the in-depth presentation from our Community Forums give you a comprehensive picture of just how devastating failure of Issue 22 would be to our children, our community, and our future.
Recent levy failures resulted in the elimination of 23 positions. Without passage of Issue 22 this number will increase to 38! That is a 20% reduction in staff in just two years. This would require a significant cut of current course offerings, downgrading LMHS from an eight to a six period day, substantially shortening the K-6th grade day, eliminating ALL art and music education for K-6th grade, and drastically increasing class size across all grade levels.
The impact to transportation and school schedules could be catastrophic. Passing Issue 22 preserves the current school day for all buildings and continues busing for all students. Failure results in divided schedules at all buildings, reduction of school day for all students, elimination of busing for all 9-12th grades, elimination of busing inside a two-mile radius for all buildings, elimination of alternate stops including daycare shuttles, and a significant reduction in routes resulting in substantially fuller buses with longer ride times.
The Lake Athletic Program is as extensive as it is successful.
With 1200+ student athletes and 138 dedicated coaches across 29 sports, Lake prides itself not only on its numerous wins and championships, but more importantly, on what these programs bring to the overall educational experience of its students. Failure of Issue 22 would greatly reduce the amount of athletic opportunities offered and cause many students not to be able to participate due to cost.
The annual cost of Lake Athletic Programs reaches $800,000 not including additional costs like transportation to competitions. Fees to student athletes are currently $250 per student for the year. These fees cover less than 20% of the total cost of athletics. Failure of Issue 22 would necessitate an increase to $950 per athlete per sport. Some sports may not be able to continue their program and many families will simply not be able to afford this cost. The result will be many students losing the opportunity to participate in school sports.
