If Issue 22 fails on March 19, 15 additional teaching positions (on top of the 23 already being cut) will be eliminated causing even larger class sizes and a reduction of academic offerings. This would be a loss of 38 positions over a two year period. That is 20% reduction in Lake School Faculty or ONE in FIVE staff members.
Busing will be reduced to state minimum eliminating transportation for all high school students as well as any student K-8 within a two miles of their respective school building. Cluster stops will be introduced for the remaining bus routes and the average ride time will increase to approximately one hour each way. Alternative stops will be eliminated including daycare shuttles. This will eliminate busing for over 800 students and 20 positions in Lake's transportation department.
The school day will be cut significantly across all grade levels with LMHS downgrading from an eight to a six period day. Additionally, both Lake Elementary and LMHS will operate on a split schedule with grades beginning and ending at different times within the same building. This is due substantial staff cuts reducing course offerings and a significant reduction in routes resulting in substantially fuller buses with longer ride times.
Lake Athletic Programs will be greatly impacted with fees increasing to $950 per student per sport. Even with this increase in, the current extensive list of athletic offerings will not be sustainable.
Music education will be ELIMINATED for all students Kindergarten through 6th Grade.
Art education will be ELIMINATED for all students Kindergarten through 6th Grade.
Advanced Placement (AP) and College Credit Plus (CCP) course offerings will be greatly reduced.
STEAM courses, teams, clubs, and programs will be greatly reduced.
Extracurricular clubs and activities will be drastically reduced and fees will be assessed for future programs that were previously covered by the district.
The document below details the major impacts failure of Issue 22 will have on students, families, and the Lake community. Please reach out to KeepLakeGreat@gmail.com if you have any questions.
The map below represents the two-mile radius for each building where families
will face elimination of busing unless Issue 22 passes.
